Gonna need the Headmaster to be up on Old Crow Medicine Show given their founding member co-wrote Wagon Wheel with Bob Dylan and drop this Darius Rucker mess (who should go back to the Blowfish)...
I once met the entire band Old Crow Medicine Show while working for Chellie Pingree's 2002 US Senate campaign (they had performed a fundraising concert for the campaign). The band and a handful of campaign staffers went out to dinner, and one band member made the complimentary comment "I am really impressed with all you guys who are really going out changing the world. I'm just a high school drop out who enjoys playing music for anyone who would listen" initially I thought he had said they're just high school drop outs, but looked up the band's wikipedia article, only one of the founding members is high school drop out but walking away from the dinner I mentioned to my co-worker "How could they all have been drop outs, high school isn't that difficult?" brandishing my privilege and lack of compassion for others. My co-worker responded "you don't know their situation, not everyone can graduate high school due to circumstances out of their control. I AM A HIGH SCHOOL DROP OUT (capitalized for emphasis not anger)". I apologized, recognizing that I was being a bit of jerk with my comment.
The candidate that we were working for, Chellie Pingree, was a high school drop out too, she went back and got her GED, graduated college, lost that election but went on to be elected to US House of Representatives in 2006. I have tried to been more compassionate and less judgemental going forward.
Moosylvania - "the Only State in the Union with an Entirely Non-Resident Population"
A promo by the creators of Bullwinkle. Moosylvania was an island on the Canadian border neither country wanted. There were thousands of petition signatures to become a state. The petition arrived in DC on the first day of the Cuban Missile crisis. Needless to say there were other more pressing things on the table.
The French and Indian War! Still waiting on reparations from that one, as part of the war the Crown paid the Cherokee to fight other indians and there was a pay dispute. Anyway things happened and the cycle of violence got started. My ancestor and namesake was killed in a raid on the settlement here. Waiting on reparations from the Cherokee, British crown and the states of Virginia and South Carolina but I digress…
As for secession if I was writing the constitution I would include a clause that would supersede all state laws, allowing for by popular vote, towns to secede from counties, counties to secede from states and states to secede from the union. For the chaser there will also be a clause, by popular vote, for the rest of the county to kick out a town, a state to kick out a county and states to expel a state.
I’d also add that a “republic” or “democracy” with no mechanism to leave is no republic or democracy. However it calls itself, organizes itself or selects leadership.
That’s actually very similar to what the Grand Duke of Lichtenstein wanted to add to their constitution—basically he wants a country where nobody is there that doesn’t want to be there!
I included the right to kick people out to simply the process of everyone else leaving to get away from the portion they wanted away from and making a new organization without them.

Wonderful story Sean. As someone who’s had a bit of high test with the band once a blue moon ago, they are something else.
Here's another interesting footnote

Oh, that’s awesome! I’ve never heard of that. But I might do an episode on No Man’s Land, and I’m adding it!
