These episodes are really interesting. From this one, I learned that Sweden’s system is completely different than I thought it was. Maybe we should be learning more of this in school, so we can come up with better ideas when arguing policy and politics.

Yep! Sweden’s system is not or system on steroids at all. Delighted you enjoyed!

I'm quite certain I requested Johan Norberg back on the last survey, so I pumped my fist when the episode started. Pumped it hard.

Yep! Thrilled to get him—I’ve been wanting to talk to him (and about Sweden) for awhile

I just wanted to say that I agree with Johan about why Sweden is so naive about government, which is that they've never really been under someone else's thumb, at least not in living memory.

That's not true of the rest of the Nordics though, where both Denmark and Norway were under Nazi occupation, an occupation still remembered by living people in both countries, and Finland had to fight against the Soviets.

Not in living memory, but still recent history is Sweden's forced rule of Norway for 90 years, and the Russian Empire's forced rule of Finland for over a 100.

These experiences still shape us, so we don't have this completely naive view of all government as benign in the rest of the Nordics, I rather think we're just so goddamned relieved to be in charge of ourselves.
